The SBCC Asia Pacific Regional Symposium 2023, scheduled to be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, is the first symposium in the field of social and behavioural change communication (SBCC) to be held in the region. The symposium will bring together professionals, experts, and thought leaders from around the world for two days on 18-19 October 2023 at the huge Sabah International Convention Centre, the largest purpose-built beachfront Convention Centre in East Malaysia.

This first symposium was themed "SBCC in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands: unlocking its potential for Community Development and resilience". It serves as a platform that brings about change, which will highlight the importance of SBCC, the significance of communication in driving positive social and individual behavioural change, and its importance in developing communities that are responsive to challenges.

Its main focus is to challenge current concepts of the definition and role of communication in fostering a deeper appreciation of its power and potential.
