UPM SERDANG – The Multilingual Mind Summer School 2024, organised by the Department of English, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully brought together scholars, educators, and students to explore the theme “Research on Bilingualism and Multilingualism: Issues, Trends, and Opportunities.” The two-day program took place on 14 and 15 August 2024 at the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, UPM.

Participants engaged in sessions covering key topics in bilingualism and multilingualism, including code-switching, translanguaging, and the cognitive aspects of bilingualism. On the first day, discussions focused on code-switching, translanguaging in teaching and learning contexts, and practical workshops using PsychoPy and LexMal for psycholinguistic research.

The second day highlighted various aspects of translanguaging, the impact of bilingualism on executive functions, and the role of digital literacy in multilingual education. This session enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the effects and potential of bilingualism in an increasingly global and multilingual context.

The organizers express their heartfelt thanks to the invited speakers and guests who contributed to the success of this program. Participants returned with new knowledge, expanded academic networks, and a deeper understanding of the dynamic field of bilingualism and language diversity.
