Foodbank FBMK Calls for Students’ Participation

UPM SERDANG, JANUARY 21, 2025 - A charity initiative organised by the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), called “Serambi Sedekah Foodbank,” encourages everyone to consistently donate to the food bank every Friday.

Miss Alia Amira Abd Rahim, the director of this facility and Executive Officer of FBMK, highlighted that the donated food is directly distributed to students in need. “It was established to promote the Malaysian culture of always providing food to those in need,” she said. The Serambi Sedekah Foodbank, themed “SDG2: Zero Hunger,” was established by FBMK and is in the lobby of FBMK Block A. Its origins date back to 2019. For more than five years, it has not only created a heartwarming atmosphere in the FBMK lobby but also supported many students in need.

“I noticed there is food in the food bank,” said Sirius a graduate student and he believes students should participate more actively in this charity for a better world.” Miss Alia also mentioned, “FBMK is considering setting up a new food bank at Block C of FBMK, where more students pass by and may increase the participation rate.” FBMK remains optimistic about the future of the Serambi Sedekah Foodbank.

The faculty is working with lecturers to expand the contributor base. This partnership aims to ensure a continuous flow of resources to keep the food bank operational. As the Serambi Sedekah Foodbank continues its mission, Miss Alia expressed her hope that more students will embrace the spirit of giving. “The Serambi Sedekah Foodbank is not just about providing food; it’s about fostering a community of care and empathy,” she concluded.
