Literature as a Balm for the Soul: Shaping Empathetic Individuals

In recent times, society has once again been confronted with a troubling series of bullying cases among school students, with the situation becoming increasingly alarming. Even more heartbreaking is the fact that some of these incidents have not only resulted in serious physical injuries but have also claimed lives. Such incidents should serve as a wake-up call to all parties that bullying is no longer merely a form of adolescent misconduct, but a humanitarian crisis closely linked to the failure to manage emotions, internal conflicts and psychological distress.

Upon closer examination, some perpetrators of bullying may be struggling with unresolved emotional issues, traumatic experiences, environmental pressures or an inability to control their anger. The failure to recognise and manage these emotions may ultimately manifest in aggressive behaviour, whether in the form of physical, verbal or psychological abuse towards their peers.
