Serdang: The Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) holds a strategic role in nurturing a generation that is not only eloquent in language but also capable of leading discussions and shaping thought.

Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the media landscape has completely transformed, with social media empowering the public to become not only consumers but also creators and influencers of information.

He explained that public narratives today are shaped through widespread discussions—a process of decentralization involving the government, commercial media, content creators, and credible individuals who consistently share their views.

“This is where political communication becomes key. Around the world, leaders and political parties employ strategies such as content planning, micro-targeting, rapid response, and influencer networks to win hearts and minds long before voters reach the ballot box. The truth is, if we fail to master social media, we risk losing elections even with sound policy achievements,” he said.
