
UPM SERDANG - The opening ceremony of the Seminar on Malay Firearms and Weapons, themed "Preserving Malay Heritage as a Catalyst for Strengthening National Identity," was successfully held on 6 November 2024 at the Za'ba Auditorium, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
This two-day seminar, organised by the Malay Heritage Museum, FBMK, UPM, received collaboration from the Army Museum, the Academy of Malay Studies, University of Malaya (UM-KPT), and the Centre for Waqf, Zakat, and Endowment Management (WAZAN) UPM.
The seminar's opening ceremony was officiated by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Ir. B. T. Hang Tuah Baharudin, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Networks) of UPM, who is also the Commandant of the UPM Volunteer Student Police Corps (SUKSIS). In his speech, he highlighted the importance of Malay firearms and weapons as symbols of Malay intellectualism and key elements in local military history. He also called for the continued preservation of Malay heritage to be passed on to younger generations.
Present at the ceremony were YBhg. Colonel Abu Bakar Kamarozaman (Director of the Army Museum), YBhg. Dato' Shamsuddin Mohd Mahayidin (Adjunct Professor at FBMK and representative of the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery), YBrs. Puan Maznur Nazila Moin (representative of WAZAN), YBrs. Encik Badrul Kahar Mohd Yusof (Director of Yayasan Seni Selangor Shah Alam Art Gallery), faculty management, and representatives from other agencies and departments.
Heartfelt thanks were extended to the guests who took the time to attend the opening ceremony of the Seminar on Malay Firearms and Weapons.
