UPM SERDANG – The grand launch of the Cultural Heritage Exhibition: Busana Bonda took place yesterday with great fanfare at the Malay Heritage Museum, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The ceremony was officiated by YBhg. Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Komoo, Chairman of UPM’s Board of Directors.
Accompanying him were the Dean of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, UPM, Associate Professor Dr. Hazlina Abdul Halim; National Laureate Datuk Dr. Siti Zainon Ismail; and Exhibition Director Dr. Yuhanis Mohd Nasir. The event was further graced by esteemed guests, including Puan Sri Nila Inangda Manyam Keumala, Puan Hanisah Jonoh, representatives from the National Archives, and faculty management members.
The launch ceremony was made more special with an engaging gimmick, where three faculty staff modeled traditional attire from the personal collection of Datuk Dr. Siti Zainon Ismail. She also shared fascinating stories behind the garments, inspiring the audience with her insights.
The Busana Bonda Exhibition aims to introduce and deepen the appreciation of the beauty and significance of traditional Malay women's attire. This initiative seeks not only to preserve cultural heritage but also to revive historical values of traditional clothing that risk being forgotten by younger generations.
