
UPM SERDANG, 12 NOVEMBER 2025 – The Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) hosted a Talk with Zainal Rashid Ahmad titled “The Pen’s Eye, The World’s Eye: Reporting, Recording and Reflecting on Crisis” at the Za’ba Auditorium, FBMK UPM.
The session brought together members of academia, students, and media practitioners to engage with Zainal Rashid Ahmad, a veteran journalist, prolific writer, and humanitarian activist known for his sharp insights and critical reflections on social and human issues.
During the dialogue, Zainal Rashid emphasized that journalism is not merely about reporting events but also about documenting humanity and defending truth through the courage of the written word.
“Facts cannot change perception,” he remarked, highlighting the ongoing challenge faced by journalists in shaping balanced narratives amidst the flood of information and public sentiment.
He also shared his recent experience participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla Mission, an international humanitarian initiative aimed at delivering aid and solidarity to the people of Palestine. According to him, such missions reinforce the moral responsibility of journalists and writers to amplify the voices of humanity beyond borders.
The session was moderated by Dr. Ida Baizura Bahar, who steered the discussion with thoughtful insight and engaging dialogue.
The event was graced by Y.B. Tuan Abbas Salimmi bin Che Adzmi@Azmi, State Assemblyman for Seri Serdang, as Guest of Honour, along with Dr. Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz, Member of the Board of Directors, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
This program served as a meaningful platform to explore the intersection of journalism, humanity, and social responsibility—in line with FBMK’s commitment to nurturing intellectual engagement, critical thinking, and empathy among the university community.
