Makassar, Indonesia - The Serdang-Makassar Poetry Session, a joint programme organised by the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin, and the Kuala Lumpur Writers' Association, was held on October 28, 2024.
The event began with a welcoming speech by the host, followed by a reception to greet the guests. The event continued with speeches from representatives of Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), namely Prof. Dr. Akin Duli, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, and a representative from UPM Serdang as well as the President of the Kuala Lumpur Writers' Association, Mr. Ishak Hamzah.
One of the highlights of the event was the poetry and verse performances read by 10 speakers from UNHAS, UPM, presenters, and other participants. The session began with the poem "Negaraku Yang Satu" by Ishak Hamzah as the opening piece, followed by Dr. Che Ibrahim, who recited a poem titled Intellectual. Mr. Badrul Anas (Rullan Adhinatha), a UPM student, also delivered a heartfelt poem titled "Dewasa," which touched the audience deeply.
The poetry reading session was further enriched by a performance by UHAS students, creating a harmonious atmosphere between poetry and melody. Works such as "Gedung Ilmu, Menara Budi" by Dr. Rosnani Md Zain and "Ayam Jantan Dari Timur" by Dr. Rahimah Hamdan added a unique touch to the event.
The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to all those involved and hopes that the cooperative relationship and artistic spirit between both sides will continue to grow. The Serdang-Makassar Poetry Session not only served as an artistic platform but also as a symbol of friendship and the strong sharing of cultures.
