International Seminar on Literature and Culture Series 2: Strengthening Knowledge Ties Between Universities

Makassar, Indonesia - The International Seminar on Literature and Culture Series 2, held on October 28, 2024, at Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar, Indonesia, was organised by the Department of Malay Language, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin, the Academy of Malay Studies, Universiti Malaya, the Kuala Lumpur Writers' Association, and the Children's and Youth Literature Community Network. With the theme "Culturalisation of Knowledge in the Preservation of the 21st Century," this seminar served as an international platform to bring together thinkers and researchers in the fields of literature and culture to expand scholarly discussions on cultural preservation in the 21st century. The programme director was Associate Professor Datin Dr. Nik Rafidah Nik Muhammad Affendi, Head of the Department of Malay Language, FBMK, who was assisted by Dr. Fazilah Husin, Deputy Programme Director.

The seminar featured three prominent keynote speakers:

  1. YBhg. Prof. Dr. Akin Duli, M.A., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin
  2. YBrs. Associate Prof. Dr. Sabzali Musa Kahn, Dean of the Academy of Malay Studies, Universiti Malaya (UM)
  3. YBrs. Associate Prof. Dr. Hazlina Abdul Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, UPM

With over 100 participants from various countries, the seminar attracted postgraduate students, academics, and researchers interested in deepening their knowledge of empowerment and cultural preservation. The event reflected the commitment of institutions from Malaysia and Indonesia in advancing the fields of literature and culture, while also strengthening academic ties between the two countries.

The Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, was also present to celebrate the opening of the International Seminar on Literature and Culture Series 2. His attendance provided full support for the seminar, which plays a vital role in reinforcing scholarly networks between Universitas Hasanuddin and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

It is hoped that this seminar will serve as a foundation for cultural dialogue between nations and strengthen efforts to preserve heritage through scholarly approaches and strategic international collaborations.
