Forum 3 Decades of FBMK Highlights the Direction of the Department of Malay Language, FBMK

UPM SERDANG, JUNE 4, 2025 - In conjunction with the Pearl Jubilee celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the Department of Malay Language organised an academic forum entitled “Between History, Aspirations and Paradigms: Unpacking the Direction of the Department of Malay Language, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia”.

Held at the Za’ba Auditorium, FBMK, the programme was also carried out in collaboration with students of the BBK3216 Literary Management course. It successfully brought together guests, students, and alumni in a session filled with meaning and nostalgia.

The forum featured three distinguished panellists who have contributed significantly to the legacy of the Department of Malay Language: Dr Che Ibrahim Salleh as Panel 1, Puan Hajah Halimah Hassan as Panel 2, and Tuan Haji Mhd Amin Arshad as Panel 3.

The session was excellently moderated by Associate Professor Dr Mohd Zariat Abdul Rani.

Throughout the forum, the panellists shared many compelling and previously untold stories – including the early days of the department’s establishment, the major challenges once faced, and key initiatives that have shaped the department’s identity to this day. It offered a deeper awareness and appreciation of the department’s long journey in championing the continuity of the Malay language, literature, and culture in higher education institutions.

This programme was not merely a discussion session, but a moment of reflection and appreciation for the dedication and commitment of the Department of Malay Language community over the past three decades. It served as a platform to highlight past achievements, analyse current challenges, and chart a brighter path forward.
