Serdang, 11 April – “The only one ever build in Malaysia.” – Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia. On April 8, 2014, for the first time in Malaysia, Malay Heritage Museum was launched. The museum located in Faculty of Modern Language and Communication exhibits all the known relics of Malay culture. Some of the exhibitions in this prestigious museum are Mangkuk Penawar or Healing Bowl, Gobek Api, Cindai, and Batik. Hence, to ensure the Malay Heritage was not forgotten by time, Faculty of Modern Language and Communication was honoured with the building of the museum in the faculty. With that honour, on 8th of April 2014, the soft launch of the museum took place in the Sanggar Bahasa parking space. The ceremony begun at 9.00 a.m., with the arrival of Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia, the Dean of Modern Language and Communication Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Mua’ti @ Zamri Ahmad and the Museum Director, Dr. Muhammad Pauzi Abd Lafiff escorted by the members of Keris Warisan. The convoy was first entertained by Gendang played before proceeding to the stage for the ceremony. At 9.10 a.m., the ceremony proceeded with the singing of National Anthem and Putra Gemilang and the du’a recital. Finally the most anticipated moment, the speech and launching of the Museum by the Vice Chancellor. Among the words of Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan was that the museum will continue on leading the vision of conserving Malay culture. He also highlighted the specialty of the museum is the one and only manuscripts regarding keris especially Taming Sari was exhibit in the museum apart from being both indoor and outdoor museum. After launching the opening of the museum, the convoy was then entertained by Silat performance by Keris Warisan. Estimated at 9.35 a.m., the president of Keris Warisan, Mr. Johan Iskandar, handed a Keris as a symbolic of Malay culture to the Vice Chancellor. Another culture, Zapin, one of the famous traditional dance was performed by Kumpulan Seni Tari Bidasari, Pusat Kebudayaan UPM took place afterwards. After the eye catching performance, Vice Chancellor, Dean and the Director, along with the media did a tour of the indoor museum. The Vice Chancellor’s passion in the Malay heritage was visible when he himself explained the exhibitions in the museum as well as few demonstration of the relics. After watching the demonstration and explanation, the media was then invited to the press conference in regards of the opening at one of the outdoor exhibition, Rumah Perak.
