These courses share the same aim: to evaluate Malaysian literature in English (MLIE) and its evolution as a genre in literary studies. Held on the 5th of May 2018 at Bilik Seri Amar, this seminar was organized to further understand the state of this field of study as well as the inspirations, issues and challenges faced by Malaysian writers when writing about the Malaysian “experience”. This seminar gathered four prolific Malaysian writers such as Prof. Dr. Che Husna Azhari, Bernice Chauly, Shih-Li Kow and Shazwani Abdul Kabur.
Head of the English Department, Assoc. Prof Dr Rosli Talif, gave a welcoming speech to the participants (about 70 students) and the invited writers. Each writer was given a 30 min session to talk about their experience as Malaysian writers. A forum (about 45 minutes) was conducted by Dr Zainor at the end of the seminar, involving all four writers, followed by a Q&A session.
