The article highlights the gender disparity in Malaysia's labor force participation, despite women having higher educational attainment. The key obstacle is the expectation for women to prioritize childcare and household responsibilities. While flexible work arrangements during the pandemic didn't increase female labor participation, the high cost and limited accessibility of childcare services pose significant challenges. Policymakers are urged to address these obstacles by providing affordable, quality childcare and creating a supportive environment for working mothers. This, the article argues, is crucial for women's empowerment, economic development, and post-pandemic recovery.
